Conclusion

30.   It is of interest to note that the average bombing error on visual overshoot technique, has been reduced from the 497 yards achieved in Operation Grapple, to 335 yards on Grapple 'Y'. This shows that crews are achieving a better appreciation of the problems associated with the technique, due to post flight discussion of all error factors conducted by the Bombing Leader.

31.   The failure of the present method of plotting air bursts accurately, is a factor which is both annoying to the crews and misleading to the scientists. Therefore, it is recommended that theodolited cameras should be positioned at the trig. points of the Master and Slave quadrants, with a further one positioned some way back along the bomb line. This would then provide the means of accurately plotting all H.E. Air Bursts and also provide results for the Live drop.
